Immunopathology 4

Created by Prof. Mike Dixon

Female age 6

Tissue: Lung

This child presented with progressive weight loss, weakness, lassitude and headache. There was generalised lymphadenopathy and hepatomegaly. A chest X-ray revealed mutiple small opacities in both lung fields together with hilar lymphadenopathy. Examination of the eyes revealed papilloedema. A lumbar puncture was performed and meningitis was diagnosed. The child's condition deteriorated despite treatment and she became comatose. Death occurred 10 days after admission.

The lung contains multiple small pale nodules 2-5mm in diameter. What is the diagnosis?
