Normal Liver

Under the microscope, the liver is divided into lobules (small areas) which are mostly comprised of hepatocytes (liver cells).

In the middle of the lobule lies a central blood vessel (vein) and at the edge of the lobule is a 'hepatic triad' which is made up of:

  • Three channels
  • Two blood vessels
       (an artery and a vein)
  • One bile duct
       (channel carrying bile)
