Case 1

Female 57 years

A 57 year-old asymptomatic woman was found to have a large mass in the anterior mediastinum on routine chest radiograph. The lesion was treated by surgical excision. The results of blood tests performed as part of routine clinical examination were within normal range. The tumour was encapsulated, measuring 9cm. Sectioning revealed lobulated, homogeneous, tan, fleshy tissue with multiple cystic spaces.
