Macro: Gastrectomy. Well circumscribed lesser curve tumour 45mm diameter. Does not breach serosa. ?mucosal ulceration

Specials: strongly positive with S100. Negative for SMA, CD117, CD34, Desmin.

Female 24 years

Abdominal mass, ?GIST ?sarcoma ?ovarian. CT scan: large solid mass lesion which may be arising from stomach or could be a peritoneal deposit. There is widespread peritoneal disease, bilateral adnexal masses and subcapsular liver deposits. Percutaneous biopsy of the large left sided lesion is suggested to determine.

Macro: multiple fragments in aggregate measuring 50 x 10 x 10mm (laparoscopic biopsies).

Specials: alpha 1 AT, CD10, vimentin, NSE strongly +ve. CD56 and synaptophysin dim +ve. Chromogranin, TTF1, CA19.9, Calretinin, cKit, CK7, CK20, BerEP4, CA125 and desmin, alphaFP, HCG, inhibin, SMA and AE1/AE3 all negative.

Macro: 24mm polyp.

Female 50 years

Tumour in the wall of the gastric antrum.

Macro: wedge excision specimen 30 x 25 x 12mm. It consists of mucosa, submucosa and muscularis propria. A circumscribed tan nodule 18mm maximum dimension is present in the muscularis propria.

Specials: smooth muscle actin positive, pan CK negative, S100, CEA, Desmin negative.

Female 40 years

Previous mesenteric cyst removed ten years ago. Now recurrence at base of mesentery - clear fluid drained. Rule out malignancy.

Macro: fibrofatty tissue measuring 160 x 10 x 50mm. No cyst seen.

Specials: CD31 positive, AE1/AE3 negative.

Macro: Intact gall bladder measuring 11cm length x 4cm maximum diameter and containing several large stones. There is widespread mucosal thickening with a focal "shaggy" surface but no tumours are seen. Sections from fundus and mid gall bladder.

Macro: extended right hemicolectomy and small separate pieces of colon. Large areas of the wall are white and have the consistency of wet blotting paper with numerous full thickness holes, other areas shaggy mucosal ulcers

Macro: 30cm length of the right side of the colon containing smooth surfaced sessile mucosal polyps with diameters ranging from 4mm to 22mm.
