Anus. ?? MM perianal area. Biopsy of red nodule with 2cm pigmented lesion.

Macro: Dark brown punch biopsy 4mm wide, 3mm deep.

Specials: S100, HMB-45 and Melan-A all strongly positive in tumour.

Female 66 years

Large intestine. Palliative resection for perforated caecal tumour.

Macro: Right hemicolectomy specimen with a tumour in the caecum measuring 45mm in diameter and 60mm in length. On slicing the tumour infiltrates beyond muscularis propria and appears to reach the serosa.

Female 74 years

Small intestine. Small bowel obstruction. Jelly-like lesions causing adhesions and SBO. ?pseudomyxoma.

Macro: Matted loops of small bowel measuring 215mm at the adhesion points numerous small thin-walled cysts are present the cysts are multilocular and contain clear fluid. No mucin is seen. The cysts range in size from 2-8mm. The cyst walls are <1mm thick and smooth and translucent or grey/white in colour.

Appendix. Mucinous adenoma ? carcinoid of appendix.

Macro: There is an appendix measuring 100 mm long x 32 mm in diameter with a stapled margin measuring 40 mm. External surface is smooth with congested vessels. Slicing the appendix the lumen is dilated, filled with mucin and the wall is up to 5 mm.

Pancreas. Incindental finding. Multiloculated cystic lesion of the head of the pancreas, with slight increase of size in three years time. Dilated main pancreatic duct. Whipple's resection specimen.

Macro: Multiloculated cystic lesion, 30 mm in greatest dimension. In communication with the main pancreatic duct. Slighltly mucoid content.

Specials: MUC5AC positive. MUC2 occasional individuals cells positive. MUC1 negative.

Macro: Polyp 24x18x18mm with stalk.

Macro: Congested mucosal polyp measuring 27 x 22 x 14 mm. On slicing , cut surface reveals solid cream and fleshy appearance.

Large intestine. Abnormal sigmoidoscopy. One sessile polyp in rectum measuring 20mm, excised (removed entirely using hot snare cauterisation). The rest of examination to the point of insertion was normal.

Macro: Dark brown polyp measuring 15x12x8mm and lying separately in the pot a second dark brown polyp 6mm in diameter.
