Case BN 1

Female 60 years

CT done for lung health check. Polypoid lesion in LLL bronchus.

Specimen: LLL biopsy - multiple fragments together measuring 3 mm.

Special stains/IHC results:
Positive - S100, SOX10, CD68, Ki67 <1%. Negative - AE1/3, TTF1, synaptophysin.

Female 82 years

Left lateral back lesion.

Specimen: 4 fibrofatty pieces, 50 x 40 x 20 mm together (Block A4).

Special stains/IHC results:
Positive for VG elastic stain, Negative Beta catenin, SMM. CD34 patchy +ve in fibroblasts.

Case BN 4

Male 84 years

Left knee TKR for osteoarthritis. ?Synovitis, inflammatory cause. ?Crystal arthropathy.

Specimen: Left knee synovial tissue with pale nodules on one surface.

Special stains/IHC results:
No crystals on polarised light. CD23, CD20 and CD5 given. CD3 negative in lesional cells, CD10, Bcl6, MUM1, CD21 and Cyclin D1 negative. CD79a, Bcl2, IgD and LEF1 positive.





Case BN 5

Male 66 years

Small left bladder lesion at the dome of bladder. Raised PSA 7.3.

Specimen: 2 pieces of bladder tissue measuring 8 mm and 5 mm across.

Special stains/IHC results:
AE1/AE3, synaptophysin and S100 given. GATA3 positive. MNF116, Cam 5.2 and p40 negative and Ki-67 less than 1%.





Case BN 6

Male 33 years

Dyspepsia and reflux symptoms. Stomach polyp.

Specimen: 4 gastric biopsies from upper body labelled as gastric polyp.

Special stains/IHC results:
AE1/AE3 and CD68 given.





Case BN 7

Male 58 years

HIV Positive. HEP B positive. Discontinued antiretroviral medication for several months. Admitted for feeling unwell, and found with several purple-red lesions 8 mm on left upper arm and right forearm. ?Kaposi sarcoma. Punch biopsy of one of the lesions.

Specimen: Punch biopsy 4 mm diameter.

Special stains/IHC results:
HHV-8 positive.

Female 76 years

Capsular dissection, (R) parotid Warthin's tumour.

Specimen: Piece of nodular tan tissue weighing 5.59 grams and measuring 25 x 25 x 22 mm. The surface appears partly smooth on one side and partly ragged on the other side.

Case BN 13

Female 30 years

U3 nodule in right thyroid. FNA - papillary thyroid carcinoma. History of FAP.

Specimen: Thyroidectomy specimen containing multiple nodules on slicing. Largest measures 22 mm in maximum dimension.

Special stains/IHC results:
Tumour cells positive for PAX8, TTF1, ER, B-catenin. Negative for thyroglobulin, calcitonin, HBME1.

Case BN 14

Female 63 years

Lesion right shin.

Specimen: Ellipse of skin with an ill-defined and tan coloured nodule measuring 10 mm across.

Special stains/IHC results:
HMB45 and Desmin given. MiTF, CD68 and Cathepsin K positive. S100, Melan A, SMA, H-Caldesmon, p63, PAX-8, TFE3, CD56 and AE1/AE3 negative.





Case BN 15

Male 89 years

Suspected skin cancer right inframammary fold.

Specimen: Ellipse of skin measuring 26 x 13 x 5 mm. The epithelial surface bears an eccentric, well-defined, raised, pale keratotic nodular lesion measuring 7 x 7 x 5 mm. The lesion lies less than 2 mm from the peripheral resection margin. The resection margin is inked in black.

Special stains/IHC results:
Diffuse strong positive staining for SMA and caldesmon. Negative: HMB45, ERG, CD31, CD34, AE1/AE3, p40, CK5/6, 34BETAE12, p63, CD68, MelanA, S100, SOX10 and desmin.

? Malignancy. History of breast cancer (2016) and hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. 2023 - recurrence of endometrial cancer - revision surgery + radiotherapy.
