Male 87 years

Large left submandibular swelling with no obvious cause, likely malignancy.

Specimen: Core biopsy left submandibular lymph node - Received are four fragments of core-like tissue with the smallest measuring 7 mm and the longest is 20 mm.

Special stains/IHC results:
Strong and diffuse positive staining for S100 in spindle cells. Negative for: AE1/AE3, CD31, CD34, desmin, SMA, EMA and MNF116. Beta-catenin: cytoplasmic and membranous staining without nuclear staining. MIB-1 very low <1%.

Male 81 years

Large LLL lung mass.

Specimen: Left lung lesion core biopsy 20G x4, 2 cm each - Multiple scanty core pieces of tissue, together measuring 14 x 13 x <1 mm.

Special stains/IHC results:
CD56 and synaptophysin slides provided. MIB-1 (Ki67) low around 2%.

Male 77 years

Unwell adult with rapid onset haemorrhagic vesicles. PMH polycythaemia ?varicella ?vasculitis ?septic emboli ?lymphoma cutis.

Specimen: Punch biopsy to right anterior shoulder - A punch biopsy of skin measuring 4 x 4 x 5 mm.

Special stains/IHC results:
None.

Female 55 years

Postmenopausal bleeding, has intrauterine device, endometrial thickness 6 mm.

Specimen: Endometrial biopsy.

Female 81 years

Longstanding lesion right buccal sulcus. Benign cytology. MDT discussion for diagnostic excision.

Specimen: Tumour right buccal sulcus.

Special stains/IHC results:
Tumour cells are positive for CD34 and STAT6 and negative for S100, desmin and p63.

Male 69 years

Abdominal pain, anaemia, history of renal cancer. Endoscopy: area of irregular mucosa seen within D2.

Specimen: D2 biopsy.

Special stains/IHC results:
Positive for PAX8, non-specific staining with CD10 and negative for CK7 and CK20.

Female 80 years

Sigmoid polyp. ? Adenoma, ? HGD.

Specimen: A polyp 12 mm across. Bisected.

Special stains/IHC results:
None.

Male 71 years

GIST from lesser curve of stomach. Lap excision.

Specimen: A polypoid piece of mucosa covered tissue 35 x 25 x 20 mm. The surface mucosa appears focally disrupted. On slicing, it contains a pale yellow, firm nodule 30 x 20 x 16 mm, 2 mm from the margin.

Special stains/IHC results:
None.

Female 70 years

Left nipple excision.

Specimen: An ellipse of skin 45 x 13 x 5 mm. There is a nipple centrally which appears normal.

Special stains/IHC results:
Positive: CK5/6, p63, CK7, S100. Focal positive: CK14 (centrally), OR/ER (patchy). Negative: CD10, SMA. Cytoplasmic only: CD117.

Female 59 years

Enhancing right ovarian lesion + elevated androgen levels.

Specimen: Right ovary and tube - Ovary measures 38 x 19 x 17 mm, it contains a pale nodule measuring 17 x 15 x 14 mm. On slicing, the nodule shows dark brown cut surface.

Special stains/IHC results:
Diffusely positive for calretinin, inhibin and melan-A. Patchy CD56 positivity is seen and very occasional cells show synaptophysin staining. AE1/3, chromogranin, S100 and OCT4 are negative.

Male 37 years

Left ring finger large lesion excised surgically.

Specimen: Left ring finger - A yellow firm piece of nodule measuring 32 x 25 x 20 mm. The surface appears lobulated. The cut surface of the lesion appears pale and nodular.

Special stains/IHC results:
Giant cells show positive staining for MAC68 (CD68).

Female 28 years

Solid atypical 2 cm tumour dome of bladder. TURBT with separate base biopsy since difficult to resect. Abnormal raised white patches around bladder, not typical for cystitis cystica or squamous metaplasia, biopsy taken.

Specimen: Bladder biopsy.

Female 50 years

Previous breast reduction, indeterminate area of asymmetric density 45 mm M3 Rt breast LOQ, please exclude sinister changes.

Specimen: Pot labelled RT breast LOQ 3 x 14G - Specimen received in cassette.

Special stains/IHC results:
CK5/6, CK14 and p63 demonstrate a dual population. S100, CD117 and ABPAS provided. ER, PR negative, HER2 1+ negative.

Female 50 years

History of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Splenomegaly.

Specimen: Spleen.

Special stains/IHC results:
The narrow slit-like vascular capillaries within the angiomatoid nodules are highlighted by CD34 and CD31 immunostaining. The sinusoid-like vascular spaces are highlighted by CD31.

Male 84 years

Antral lesion. Gastric cancer removed en-bloc via ESD.

Specimen: Mucosa 40 x 33 x 3 mm pinned to a board. The surface bears a polyp 23 x 27 mm.

Female 38 years

Left salpingo-oophorectomy and cystectomy.

Specimen: Left ovary, tube and cyst wall - A disrupted solid ovarian mass with attached Fallopian tube. The disrupted solid ovary measures 65 x 44 x 37 mm. On slicing, the presumed ovarian mass has a solid cut surface with pale nodular areas and background mucoid stroma.
