Specimen: Bladder chips. Seven pieces of tissue, 4-8 mm.

Synaptophysin(+), chromogranin(+), CD 56(+), AE1/3(-); CK7(-); CK20(-); GATA3(+); CD 68 (-); TTF-1(-); ER(-); RCC marker(-).

"Omental cake".

Specimen: US-guided omental biopsy. Two cores of tissue, the longer is 14 mm.

Right upper lobe nodule. Increasing in size. Strong PET(+).

Specimen: Skin excision - Ellipse of skin 35 x 20 mm, depth 4mm, with irregular varying pigmented surface area 25 mm maximum, 2 mm from closest margin.

Cystic swelling on palate - biopsy.

Biopsy proven rectal adenocarcinoma with enlarged left iliac nodes.

Specimen: A-P resection + excision of left iliac lymph nodes. This section is from one of the iliac lymph nodes.

PSA positive CK7, CK20, CDX2 negative.

Nodule on tip of nose, ? SCC.

Specimen: Punch excision.

Female 35 years

Small lower pole right renal tumour. Procedure laparoscopic right partial nephrectomy.

Specimen: Right partial nephrectomy - A 10 g piece of kidney tissue measuring 30 x 26 x 28 mm within which is a smooth, cream, exophytic tumour measuring 26 x 24 x 22 mm. There is a ring of parenchyma around the tumour measuring up to 4 mm in thickness. The cut surface is smooth and white. No confluent necrosis or haemorrhagic areas are seen.



Special stains/IHC results:
Positive: PAX8, WT1 and CD57. Negative: CK7, racemase, CD10, EMA.

Male 58 years

Large growth on left thigh for 7 months - infected discharging, ? pyogenic granuloma.

Specimen: A pedunculated pale ulcerated nodule measuring 33 x 20 x 24 mm with a stalk measuring 12 mm in length.



Special stains/IHC results:
Desmin and SMA diffuse strong positive staining. Focal patchy positive staining for AE1/AE3. 34Be12, S100 and SOX-10 are all negative. CD31 and CD34 highlight vessels within the tumour.

Female 29 years

Atypical Spitz naevus excised.

Specimen: An ellipse of skin measuring 20 x 10 x 5 mm. The skin surface bears a centrally located pigmented lesion with an ill-defined pale border, which measures 10 x 7 mm.

Male 47 years

Left testicular tumour. AFP: 51; LDH, hCG normal.

Specimen: Orchidectomy. 60 g specimen of testis and spermatic cord with a cream cystic and multinodular tumour 35 x 34 x 17 mm.



Special stains/IHC results:
Focally positive for: OCT3/4, CD117, PLAP, CD30, AFP; CK20.

Male 71 years

Left radical orchidectomy for left scrotal mass.

Specimen: Left radical orchidectomy - Testis 50 x 38 x 20 mm with cord. Small solid grey/white lesion in testis abutting capsule 9 x 8 x 8 mm.



Special stains/IHC results:
MNF116 , podoplanin and calretinin positive. Inhibin, CD68, CD56, S100 and melan A negative.

Female 86 years

Postmenopausal bleeding. Scan showed thickened endometrium, ? cancer. Previous Manchester repair.

Specimen: Total hysterectomy. Uterus contains a tumour, 15 mm in maximum dimension which invades the inner half of the myometrium.



Special stains/IHC results:
AE1/3 & ER positive, p53 mosaic pattern staining.

Male 72 years

Left thigh 4 cm solid enhancing intramuscular lesion in the anterior fibres of the left gluteus minimus.

Specimen: Three cores of pale grey and brown tissue measuring 1.2 to 1.8 cm in maximum dimension.



Special stains/IHC results:
STAT6 - diffusely positive. CD34, actin, blc2 - positive (patchy). Negative: EMA, S100, AE1/AE3, cytokeratins, desmin. Ki67 index - <3%.
