Female 73 years

Liver resection segment 6 lesion. Hepatocellular carcinoma. Wedge of liver, 80 x 60 x 30mm containing pale nodule 30mm in diameter close to capsule.


Special stains/IHC results:

Large eosinophilic cells HMB45, Melan A positive and Hepar1 negative. Spindle cells desmin positive.

Male 63 years

Right parotid mass. Right parotid gland - Salivary gland tissue weighing 23.7g and measuring 45 x 35 x 35mm. Slicing reveals a cream/yellow nodule measuring 25 x 17 x 35mm and extends close to the capsule.

None.

Female 70 years

T2 N1b M1 thyroid lesion. Thyroid right lobe - hemithyroidectomy weighing 14.9g and measuring 43 x 23 x 25mm. Slicing reveals abundant calcification throughout.

Female 21 years

Right neck lymph node. A lymph node measuring 1.8 x 1.2 x 1.0cm.


Special stains/IHC results:

CD30, CD15 and PAX5 positive.

Male 37 years

Scrotal cyst. An ellipse of skin 13 x 8 x 7mm. On the surface there is an ill-defined pale nodule approximately 6 x 6 x 1mm which extends to within 1mm of the closest peripheral margin. Slicing through the nodule reveals a dense pale cut surface.


Special stains/IHC results:

S100 and CD68 positive.

Female 37 years

Lumps on left index finger and thumb. Firm pale nodule 7 x 5 x 5mm with attached ellipse of unremarkable skin 11 x 4mm.

Female 68 years

1.5cm buccal mucosa lesion - near parotid duct opening. Incisional biopsy. An irregular, congested mucosal fragment measuring 8mm in maximum dimension.

Female 23 years

Appendicitis. An appendix measuring 68mm in length and up to 9mm in diameter with mesoappendix to a depth of 10mm. The serosa is congested and bears adhesions. The mucosa is haemorrhagic.

Ki67 1% positivity in lesion.

Male 39 years

Lipoma from back. A lobulated fatty nodule which measures 40 x 25 x 15mm. Slicing reveals a glistening yellowish cut surface.

Male 69 years

Excision lump right forearm. ?Vascular malformation. Present since Sept 2016. Initial increase in size for the first few months. A piece of fibrofatty tissue measuring 31 x 20 x 15mm. On slicing, the tissue has a pale homogeneous smooth cut surface.


Special stains/IHC results:

Positive: CD56, chromogranin, synaptophysin, CK20 (dot-like), CK7. Negative: CD45, TTF1. Ki67 index >80%.

Female 82 years

Dysphagia. Oesophagus - multiple ulcers of length 6mm. 'Oesophageal' - Two biopsies measuring from 2 to 6mm.


Special stains/IHC results:

Positive: HSV1. Negative: PASD.

Female 70 years

Right thyroid nodule U3/Thy 4. Diagnostic right hemi-thyroidectomy. Right thyroid lobe weighing 5g and measuring 39 x 21x 18mm. The superior lobe contains a slightly ill-defined, nodule measuring 12 x 10 x 10mm. The cut surfaces appear white and solid.


Special stains/IHC results:

Positive: TTF1, CD56, chromogranin, synaptophysin, CK7, CEA, calcitonin. PAX8 and thyroglobulin are negative in the vast majority of cells. Negative: Congo Red, Sirius Red, OR, GCDFP15, CDX2 and CK20.

Female 77 years

Oral palatal nodule. Submucosal grey solid nodule 11mm in diameter.


Special stains/IHC results:

Cells positive with CK7, S100 and SOX-1 focally. Negative for p63 and DOG-1 ki67 index 5%.

Male 87 years

Right neck mass, had preoperative radiotherapy. An ellipse of skin measuring 130 x 64mm with underlying fatty tissue and skeletal muscle to a depth of 70mm within which there is a well circumscribed, encapsulated tumour measuring 90 x 55 x 60mm.


Special stains/IHC results:

None.

Female 44 years

Para-aortic lymph node biopsy ?lymphoma. Further clinical information: abdominal lymphadenopathy and a bulky "fibroid" uterus. Multiple pieces of firm fibrous tissue, the largest 28 x 22 x 10mm and the smallest 4mm. Slicing reveals a solid, partly lobulated cream surface.


Special stains/IHC results:

Positive: bcl2, CD10. Ki67 approx 10%. Negative: AE1/AE3, CK8/18, p63, S-100 protein, melan-A, CD3, CD5, CD20, CD23, CD34 and EMA. In specialist centre: Nuclear WT-1 positivity and patchy positivity for CD56, smooth muscle actin, desmin and CD99.

Male 27 years

Neck lymph node. Lymphadenopathy. A lymph node surrounded by fat measuring 6 x 5 x 5mm.
