Lesion in right external auditory canal for ten years. Slow growing, ?adnexal tumour.

Had subtotal thyroidectomy comprising right lobe, part of the left lobe and isthmus. The specimen weighs 30g. The cut surface has a multinodular appearance with pale bands of fibrosis.

Female 71 years

PMB, on Tamoxifen with 12mm endometrium on scan. EUA bilateral pelvic side wall disease. Known T4 breast cancer.

Macroscopic description:
Cervical polyp polypoid tissue pieces 50 x 20 x 20cm with a myxoid appearance.

Immunohistochemistry:
cytokeratin (CAM) positive

Female 38 years

Acute abdomen with ruptured right tubo-ovarian abscess. IUCD in-situ.

Macroscopic description:
(R) ovary haemorrhagic, yellow flecked tissue measuring 110 x 60 x 50mm. Special stains: Gram positive filamentous organisms present.

Male 65 years

Extensive tumour left scalp with mainly subcutaneous infiltration. 12 month history.

Macroscopic description:
Skin up to 95mm across and 15mm thick. This skin is indurated and firm.

Immunohistochemistry:
Factor VIII positive

Perineal swelling. NB sent by a colorectal surgeon. Very unusual perineal swelling of unknown aetiology. Old Histology clin info: "V.odd lesion extending from L. side of bladder. L ischiorectal fossa. ??? v. unusual...".

Macroscopic description:
Perineal swelling Multiple fragments of fibrofatty tissue the largest measuring 60 x 30 x 10 mm, the smallest measuring 25 x 20 x 10 mm. Micro: The stromal cells and strands of smooth muscle are positive for smooth muscle actin and for desmin.

Male 45 years

Nodule found at posterior aspect of cystoprostatectomy and urethrectomy specimen.

Male 28 years

Mass over left side of back. Macroscopically fatty tissue only.

Male 46 years

Subcutaneous mass on inner thigh. We received nodular fatty tissue measuring 4 x 3 x 1cm.

Female 50 years

Lymph node from neck. We received a lymph node measuring 2 x 1.8 x 1cm. On section the node was firm and mottled brown/pink in colour.

Female 68 years

Nodular lesion of lip. Thought clinically to be a lymph node. We received a hard irregular nodule measuring 0.9 cm.

Female 47 years

Large (26 x 21 x 17cm) retroperitoneal mass. The mass is well circumscribed and non infiltrating. The mass is adherent to the kidney but not arising from it, or infiltrating it. The mass is pale tan and predominantly solid with some cystic areas. Immunostaining: Alpha smooth muscle antibody (SMA), h-Caldesmon, desmin and HMB45 are positive. S100 is negative.

Female 28 years

Duodenal tumour adjacent to ampulla of Vater with ulcerated area.

Macroscopic description:
Firm dark brown nodule measuring 20 x 18 x 16mm partly covered by mucosa. The mucosa bears an ulcer 4mm in diameter. Micro: Widespread positivity for Chromogranin A, Protein Gene Product 9.5 and Synaptophysin. There is very focal positivity for S100 protein and Neurofilament protein.

Female 82 years

Breast tumour. We received a mastectomy specimen with a large well defined nodular tumour. On section the cut surface was variegated grey/pink. Immunocytochemistry showed patchy desmin and S100 protein positivity. Smooth muscle actin and CD34 were negative.
