Case 7



Part A - slides 327396 and 327397:

Female 20 years

Soft tissue. Appendectomy, family history of intra-abdominal desmoid tumour. In this patient, multiple abnormal tumour lesions in abdominal cavity. Appendix removed with abnormal tissue attached.

Macro: Appendix 7 x 1 x 0.5m with an attached appendage measuring 3 x 0.1 x 0.1cm.

Note: Submitted slide contains the nodule only.

No imaging.

IHC: Beta catenin - no convincing nuclear staining.



Part B - slides 331266 and 331267:

Female 25 years

Sister of above.

Excision of peritoneal mass involving appendix.

Immuno: focal SMA. Negative for CD34, Desmin, S100.


Case 8

Female 53 years

Soft tissue tumour dorsum proximal right middle finger in 2012 (section provided). Now presenting acutely with small bowel intussusception with an 85mm mass in the leading edge of the intussuscepted segment.

Macro: Amputation right middle finger and third ray. Tumour on proximal finger ulcerating through skin 25mm in maximum diameter. Haemorrhagic, necrotic and fleshy cut surface.

Imaging: Staging scans in 2012 negative.

IHC: Diffuse positivity for BCL2; strong patchy staining for CD99, CD56 and TLE1; single cells positive for CKAE1/3 and EMA. INI1 retained. Negative for all other epithelial and neuroendocrine markers, desmin, S100 and lymphoma present.


Case 9

Female 70 years

Soft tissue. TB as a child - chronic right paraspinal collection/mass within spinal muscle ? tuberculoma. Open biopsy.

Macro: Multiple fragments of whitish-tan, haemorrhagic and partly necrotic tissue, together 30mm in MD.

Imaging: MR showed right sided paraspinal heterogeneous, peripherally enhancing, lobulated intramuscular mass (8.6cm x 3.6cm x 4.7cm in diameter).

IHC: None given.
