Normal Brain

Under the microscope, the largest part of the cerebrum is called the cerebral cortex. The largest part (90%) of the cerebral cortex is called the neocortex or 'new cortex', which is the part of the brain which enables us to carry out 'higher functions' and separates us from more simple organisms. This includes processes like, sensory perception and motor commands, conscious thought, speech, language, personality and learned skills.
